Doug Comacho is a character I started drawing in 1992, 10 years before I started the concept for Bier Suppe. I had an undeveloped Seinfeldesque comic that I decided to strip-mine for other uses.
...

I think Doug likes it here, but I don't think he enjoys being homeless.

So 'The Optimist & The Pessimist' won't be seeing the light of day as it's own comic? That's fine. You developed a lot of good content with that story, so it's good we won't see it going to waste.

[Transcript] - Anton snaps at Doug, "HEY, CHILL! She didn't do anything to you!" Anton turns to Shiona, "Let me see it... a little swollen, but I don't think it's broken." Doug covers his face is boredom and disgust as Anton continues, "Got a place to stay tonight?" Shiona replies, "Not really."

"Well, tell you what.. you can stay at my place tonight. I've got a decent couch." Doug interjects, "Correction, your BROTHER has a decent couch."

"Whatever. I'll just let him know we'll have company tonight."

"Oh, I see, your brother doesn't let you have friends over, but homewreckers you hardly know are okay."

"First of all. SHUT THE FUCK UP. Second.. this is special circumstances. I can talk him into it.. well, shit."

"What's wrong now?"

"His phone's busy."

"You gotta lan line, right?"

"Well.. not exactly. I put long distance on without asking him, then made a couple of calls out of the country. He found out, disconnected the phone, and got DSL."

"Can you do anything without screwing it up?!!"

"Look who's talking."

"I have an excuse!"

I was debating LAN versus LAND line. I'm sure people will call this one down, but what the hell.

This reminds me of Gary Trudeau comics showing word balloons extending from invisible characters. It's been so long, I've forgotten the last time I found Doonsbury funny, original or insightful. You might also look up Gary Dunaier, the creator of what seems to be a one-shot comic called 'InvisoWorld'.
