As mentioned in the mouseover up their, jackdaws sound a lot like a bunch of eletronic toys --sorta like a Spencer's Gifts store did in the middle of the 80s. Jackdaws are also a lot like pigeons in the fact that they have a very tame quality to them. They're nearly fearless around a parking lot, but polite. They only attack if you're getting too near their nests... at least, that's what they're supposed to do. They've never attacked Mel or I.
...

The water looks like clay or something. It's too bad you didn't reflect some clouds off the water.

A collage of one shots I sketched over a year ago. The grackles were to be a self-contained substory, but I really don't have a full storyline for them, not one that's in any way interesting. It's interesting, that the local 'mass' of grackles that come to Victoria every year stay mostly on the campus of Victoria High (now Memorial High), or they make the rotations though the vacant fields and parking lots along Loop 463 and John Stockbauer.
...

I wasn't interested in reflecting the water. BTW, have you seen how murky the Guadalupe river is? It's a bit greener than this picture, but it doesn't reflect much. Looks like mud.

[Transcript] - Somewhere above a highway bridge Norm and Dorma are waiting for dinner... "Anything dead yet?" From several poles away Norm... or Dorma... you can' really tell at this distance... replies, "No."

"Keep me posted."

"Will do."

Spring comes to the area, lasting about a month. Clement weather inspires a lot of moving around. Trees bloom. Storms come and uproot a few of them. The cycle of life continues.

[pictured is a telephone cable habitated by a line of grackles] The grackles have been here all winter. They have a call that is uniquely their own. And a mating ritual that is also uniquely their own.

"Hey cutey! Have you seen my... TAIL!?! Yeah, how 'bout that? You want some of that, doncha?"

"Go away."

"Lesbo."

The common boat-tailed grackle, also known as the jackdaw. A migratory bird that resembles a small crow with demonically yellowish eyes. They enjoy fresh and leftover seafood, litoral areas, hanging out in large groups and shitting on everything in their path. So, when you pull into the parking lot of Red Lobster and see a sign that says, "Not responsible for bird damage.", you know what it means and where it's coming from.

When many are together, their call can be described as something resembling HAARP testing on shortwave, Spencer's Gifts, Todd Rundgren's concrete music experiments from the early 70's or what you would hear if you took the worst tracks of Yoko Ono and listened to them simultaneously while on acid.
